Carb
Sync:Make sure that
the cables are routed correctly to their respective carbs. The cables are numbered
at the junction from 0-4 with 0 being the oil cable. The cylinders are numbered
LF=#1, RF=#2, LR=#3, RR=#4. The longer of the two choke cables goes to the #4
carb. Adjust the cable slack at the grip to have a minimum of 1-2mm of play
only. Run all of the carb top cable adjusters all the way in and then back them out
3/4 turn. Wrap some 1/8" vinyl hose (or clothes line, or 12ga wire, etc.) 1.5
times around the throttle between the stock grip and the housing to act as a friction
brake to aid in holding the throttle stationary while synchronizing the carbs.
Starting with the right side, raise the slides up with the throttle until one of the dots
on the slides just touches the top of the carb bore. (Use a flashlight to properly
illuminate the dot and throttle bore to dispel shadows). Then raise the adjacent
slide to match and tighten both adjuster lock nuts. On the left side, raise each
slide accordingly to match and tighten the adjusters. (Note: The left side
adjusters typically ride 3 turns higher than the right side. It's just how the
cables are cut). At this time, check to see that the oil pump is set 1-2 turns
leaner than stock, depending on the quality of oil that you use. Stock setting has
the two dash marks lining up when the carb dots are at the top.
Oil the filters
lightly. Install the rear filters with the bodies angling downward to the rear and
parallel to the top frame rails. Rotate the front filters until they rest against
the rear flange area. Place the screw clamp head face up and to the rear for best
clearance.
Install your fairing after
a quick test ride to make sure that everything's fine. Questions? Call
